A Cystic Fibrosis School for doctors and patients’ parents was held in Murmansk

A Cystic Fibrosis School was held for doctors and the patients’ parents from 2-3 December 2016, at Murmansk Children’s Hospital. The project was implemented as a part of the Initiative Charitable Programme, with the active participation of the Association of Patients with Cystic Fibrosis in Murmansk, and with the financial support of the Ostrova Charitable Foundation.

Galina Kuptsova, a physiatrist and exercise therapy doctor from the Morozov Children’s Hospital (Moscow), and medical psychologist and psychotherapist, Olga Poletaeva (Saint Petersburg), were invited to participate in the school. On the first day of the school, doctors from Murmansk listened to presentations from the invited speakers. The second day was dedicated to working with the parents of patients: a master class on kinesiotherapy was held and there was also a group meeting with a psychologist.

Approximately 25 patients with cystic fibrosis live in Murmansk and Murmansk region and they should be able to access quality medical care where they live. Having these types of schools in the regions is important not only in terms of offering training to and psychological support for parents, but also in order to inform doctors about this rare disorder and about the specifics of its treatment.
