On January 4, 2017 in N.V. Sklifosovsky Federal Research Institute of Emergency Medicine a successful operation on lungs transplantation was made on Galina Bocharnikova (26 years old).
Galina was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis in her early childhood, and from May 2016 the girl was on the waiting list for lungs transplantation.
In October Galina addressed the Ostrova Foundation and became a participant of the Transplantation Programme. As a part of this programme the foundation acquires nutritional care for patients waiting for the surgery and during their rehabilitation period. With nutritional support Galina could gain additional kilograms within short term.
A suitable donor was found very quickly – just after three months of waiting time. The surgery was successful, and now Galina Bocharnikova is in rehabilitation. After the complex operation the patient’s body is very exhausted, and she still needs nutritional care. The Ostrova Foundation continues to provide Galina with special nutritional care as well as with devices for its intake until the girl gains strength.
Up to this day in our country 20 operations were made on adult patients with cystic fibrosis. 20 people received new lungs and a chance to have their lives continued. More and more new patients from different regions of Russia get on the waiting list for transplantation, and many of them need help.
