On 22 September, the first research and practice conference “Contemporary issues in pulmonology in child and adult patients with cystic fibrosis” was held in Chita.
There were 122 participants, over half of which were doctors, as well as third and fourth year medical students.
The event was a step to raising awareness and improving medical assistance for those in the region with cystic fibrosis.
The first day was dedicated to patient consultations. Microbiota samples were taken and sent to Samara, to a lab that specializes in finding Burkholderia cepacia complex; this was to make more accurate saliva and phlem analyses.
At the same time, group meetings with parents and doctors were held with a clinical psychologist from St Petersburg, Olga Olegovna Poletayeva.
On the second day, leading specialists from St Petersburg, Moscow, and Samara talked about the nuances of diagnosing, managing, and examining patients with cystic fibrosis; contemporary issues in modern microbiology; and issues regarding diagnoses and neonatal screening.
