NGOs and Doctors Prepare Regulations for Hospitalizing Individuals with Cystic Fibrosis

Together, several NGOs and doctors have sent a letter to the state healthcare agency regarding the importance of satisfying certain requirements when hospitalizing individuals with cystic fibrosis. One reason behind the initiative was the rising number of cases of Burkholderia cenocepacia ST709 among cystic fibrosis sufferers nation-wide.

Multiple studies have shown that the infection drops the lifespan of cystic fibrosis patients by an average of 10 years.

Accordingly, doctors have emphasized that patients with cystic fibrosis need to be hospitalized in isolate wards with bathroom facilities as per the national consensus. This reduces the risk of infecting others with life-threatening diseases and increasing the lifespan of those with cystic fibrosis.
