Overview of Cystic Fibrosis Symposiums Held 24–26 October

The 16th Innovative Technologies in Pediatrics and Pediatric Surgery Russian Congress and The 7th All-Russian Pediatric Pulmonology Congress took place on 24–26 October. As part of the Congress, cystic fibrosis clinical research experts organised two symposiums.

Valerie Mühlbacher, Assistant Coordinator of the ECFS Diagnostic Network Working Group from the Charité university hospital (Berlin, Germany), participated in the Modern Cystic Fibrosis Diagnostic Methods Symposium. She presented her reports Cystic Fibrosis Diagnostics (an overview of the European consensus) and Nasal and Intestinal Potential Measurement Techniques

The symposium The Infection Process and Antibiotic Treatment of Cystic Fibrosis – What You Need to Know raised issues related to monitoring respiratory infections and microbiological diagnoses of cystic fibrosis. Currently, dedicated software is being developed in Russia to monitor the infection process in patients with cystic fibrosis. The preliminary results of the project were presented during the symposium.

O. Novosyolova, a post-graduate student studying cystic fibrosis, described the possibility of prescribing personalized antimicrobial agents in her report Pharmacogenetics and Pharmacokinetics of Antibiotic Chemotherapeutic Agents in Cystic Fibrosis Patients.

Modern approaches to treating pseudomonas infections and respiratory infections caused by the Burkholderia cepacia complex were outlined in a report by Professor E. Kondratyeva and S. Krasovsky, PhD (Medicine).
