The first interregional research and training conference, “Cystic Fibrosis Today: From Child to Adult”, was held on February 16 in Astrakhan at Astrakhan State Medical University.
The organizers were Astrakhan State Medical University and Astrakhan’s N.N. Silishcheva Regional Children’s Clinical Hospital.
More than 50 people took part in the event: doctors and parents of children with CF.
Furthermore, they were joined via webcast by pulmonologists from Lugansk. The local administration sponsored participation in the conference for two specialists from Donetsk, paying for their transportation and accommodation.
The conference series was opened by Olga A. Bashkina (chief external pediatrician for the Ministry of Health of Astrakhan Region, pro-rector for research at Astrakhan State Medical University, Doctor of Medicine, and a professor).
The status of CF in the region was covered extensively in a report by Diana F. Sergienko (a pulmonologist and professor in the Faculty of Pediatrics at Astrakhan State Medical University and a Doctor of Medicine).
Next, in accordance with the program, the major issues of CF were considered: microbiology, kinesiotherapy, CF and nutrition, the specificities of managing adult patient cases, questions about psychological assistance for parents and children with CF, and opportunities for cooperation with the Ostrova Charitable Foundation.
