Learning from Experience – Residency Training at a Children’s Center for Cystic Fibrosis

In September, three doctors from Ulan-Ude, Yoshkar-Ola in the Mari El Republic, and a pulmonologist from Children’s City Hospital No. 1 in St. Petersburg, had their residency in the Children’s Center for Cystic Fibrosis, located in the 3rd Infectious Containment Department of St. Olga’s Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg.

Plane tickets were purchased and the residency arranged thanks to our friends and partners, the coffee shop chain Shokoladnitsa in St. Petersburg.

During their residency, the doctors learned how to work within the department: organizing patient logs, observing sanitary anti-epidemic practices specific to the department and cystic fibrosis wing, hospitalization plans, department duties, and diagnostics room work.

Theoretical and practical exercises were organized for every subject: sweat tests, measuring bone mass, impedance monitoring, phlegm drawing systems, spirography, and installing portacaths and peripheral catheters.

Such residencies at St. Olga’s Children’s Center for Cystic Fibrosis are organized throughout the year once there are applications from foreign interested professionals: doctors from medical institutions and clinics.
