Training of Bacteriologists

For the first time in Russia, a cycle of advanced courses on “Microbiological Aspects of the Laboratory Diagnosis of Infectious Bacterial Pathogens in Cystic Fibrosis” was held in Samara from June 17 – 21.

Bacteriologists from Kemerovo, Novosibirsk, and Belgorod took part in it. The cycle was devoted to practical work isolating B. cepacia and other non-fermentative microorganisms.

Currently, the identification of strains of the B. cepacia complex from clinical materials presents significant difficulties for many bacteriologists, even for specialists with many years of experience. Timely and high quality microbiological diagnosis is vital for cystic fibrosis patients.
