From April 5 to 17, as well as from June 7 to 12, 2021, the Children’s City Hospital of St. Olga held the course «Current Problems of Physical Rehabilitation. Kinesitherapy for chronic lung diseases»
Treatment of cystic fibrosis requires an integrated approach. Modern methods of kinesitherapy—a special set of physical and breathing exercises that help remove phlegm from the lungs—improve the necessary drug therapy for CF patients.
Regular and high-quality kinesitherapy significantly reduces the risk of relapse, improves the respiratory function of the lungs, increases physical performance, and, consequently, enhances the patients’ quality of life.
With the support of the Ostrova Charitable Foundation, 13 specialists in various domains (pediatricians, pulmonologists, chief nurses, and physical therapy doctors) from Moscow, Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg, Chita and Kemerovo, Grozny, Ufa, and Ivanovo took part in the training.
The training program included: studying the structure and functionality of the City Children’s Cystic Fibrosis Center; an overview of the inventory and equipment of the physical therapy (kinesitherapy) room; the use of instrumental methods of rehabilitation in patients with respiratory pathology; the use of exercises focused on enhancing the bronchial drainage and improving chest mobility; the use of respiratory exercisers with positive inhalation and exhalation pressure; features of kinesitherapy with patients in serious condition; conducting daily practical exercises with patients and practicing the acquired skills.
At the end of the training, the participants passed the exam and received a certificate of advanced training. Now the specialists can independently select the optimal set of exercises for each specific patient.
From June 7 to 11, a thematic advanced training «Microbiological aspects of laboratory diagnostics of pathogenic bacteria in cystic fibrosis» was held in Samara under the aegis of the microbiological department of the Clinical and Diagnostic Laboratory of the Clinics of the FSBI Samara State Medical University. The Ostrova Charitable Foundation supported the training of four specialists from different regions of Russia:

The training course comprised lectures and practical exercises
Upon completion of the training, the course participants received certificates of professional development.
